3D Animation II
A class focusing on teaching 3D animation using Maya. After a slew of assignments that taught us the principles of animation and motion, students were assigned to do two “body mechanics” shorts demonstrating a humanoid pushing or pulling an object and doing a type of unique locomotion. Both animations utilized reference videos.
Project 1 - Push
For the first body mechanics project, I decided to depict a person pushing a heavy object. The most challenging part about this assignment was convincing the viewer that the box actually had considerable weight, and that the character was straining to move it.
Project 2 - Sneak
For the second body mechanics project, I chose to reference a person walking sneakily. What challenged me was making it seem that the person was intentionally planning out their steps and that, despite their lengthy, wobbly stride, it was possible for them to keep their balance.
3D Modeling II
A class focusing on teaching 3D character modeling in Maya. Students were assigned to create two simple humanoid character models over the course of the semester, with an emphasis on clean topology.
Bernie the Bat
My first 3D character model is based off a pygmy round eared bat. Becasue we were asked to base our characters off of one simple, repeating shape, I chose to base Bernie off of a triangle. To the left are screenshots from the SketchFab page (which you can access with the button below) and the turnaround sketch I used to create the finished model. Below are Bernie's initial iterative sketches.
