Evelyn Fogg
Titles: Hero of the Duchy of Lyena Caelora
Evelyn is my player character for an ongoing Dungeons & Dragons homebrew campaign. Evelyn lived as a gravedigger with her aunt until her heroically-inclined friend, Yannik, was inflicted with a curse that put him in a catatonic state. She took him to the local wisewoman for healing, but a week later, both the healer and all her patients vanished from the clinic. Evelyn’s investigation of the clinic found no clues as to wisewoman’s whereabouts, but instead turned up a ring that, when she touched, sent her into a nightmare-ridden slumber. She awoke a year later with knowledge of divine magic and strange bits of ancient history -- and a second voice in her head. Evelyn now journeys to find both her friend and answers as to the nature of the ancient spirit now bound to her mind and soul.
Design Path
Evelyn had a few guiding design elements I followed throughout my process:
- Long sleeves so she can play with the cuffs and a tall collar/scarf to hide her face in when nervous or frightened
- Shawl/cape and tall boots for traveling
- Dress-like silhouette but must have pants (horse-rider)
- Chain mail or leather armor present but not central
Waking from a deep sleep with an ancient spirit’s vast knowledge of the fantastic dangers of the multiverse would make anyone anxious and wary, and Evelyn is, by far, no exception. Her party fondly likens her to a gloomy, pessimistic mouse prone to loud exclamations of fear, although she comes alive when researching obscure bits of history and folklore. Evelyn has no experience adventuring -- all her martial and magical knowledge comes from the spirit bound to her -- so she’s learning the occupation as she goes.
